Aviation Metal Connector XLR

GX-series screw-lock circular connectors — GX-12, GX-16, GX-20, and GX-25 male/female pairs rated up to 25A, IP54, 2 to 12 pins.

Aviation metal connectors — commonly sold as the GX series and often called metal XLR — are circular panel-mount plug and socket pairs joined by a threaded screw-lock collar. Tighten the collar and the joint holds through vibration, cable tugs, and the constant re-plugging that loosens push-fit connectors on a workshop bench or a stage rig. Every connector here shares the same construction: an aluminium alloy body, nickel-plated copper contacts, and an IP54 seal against dust and splashing water, rated for more than 500 mating cycles. The four sizes are named for their panel cut-out — GX-12 (12mm), GX-16 (16mm), GX-20 (20mm), and GX-25 (25mm) — so you drill one hole to the matching diameter and the connector mounts flush to the enclosure face.

Pin counts run from 2 up to 12 depending on size, and current capacity scales with the body: 5A on the GX-12 and GX-16, up to 10A on the GX-20, and up to 25A on the low-pin-count GX-25. That spread covers everything from a 3-pin microphone or sensor lead to a 12-pin multi-channel control harness or a heavy motor feed.

Buying Guide

Start with your panel hole and your current draw, because those two decide the size. GX-12 and GX-16 are signal-level connectors at 5A — right for audio, sensors, and low-power control lines, with the GX-16 offering up to 10 pins when you need to carry many conductors through one gland. Step up to the GX-20 for mixed power and signal work at up to 10A, and to the GX-25 when you're switching real load: it handles 25A on 2–4 pin configurations and is rated to 1000V AC. Then count your conductors and add at least one spare pin — retrofitting an extra wire later means replacing the whole pair. Finally, note that every listing is supplied as a male-plus-female pair, so you need one set per cable break, and check the operating range if the equipment lives outdoors or in an unheated space: the GX-20 covers -20°C to +85°C and the GX-25 stretches to -60°C.
