Toggle Switches

Panel-mount bat handle toggle switches — 2, 3 and 6 pin in SPST, SPDT and DPDT, latching or momentary double-reset, with screw, spade or solder termination and ratings to 15A at 250V AC.

A toggle switch is thrown with a bat handle rather than pressed, and that single difference is why it still owns the jobs where an operator needs to see the state of a circuit from across a workshop and change it wearing gloves. Start with the pin count, because it decides what the switch can actually do. A 2-pin SPST simply breaks one line on and off. A 3-pin SPDT switches one line between two destinations, and depending on the model gives either a plain On-On changeover or a three-position On-Off-On with a genuine centre off. A 6-pin DPDT does the same for two lines at once, which is what reverses a motor by swapping polarity across both poles together.

Then decide whether the handle should stay where you leave it or spring back. Latching models hold their position and suit main power, source selection, and mode switching. The double-reset momentary models — the ZENGTAI H-123 and the Daier KN3C-223 — return to centre off the moment the handle is released, which is exactly what jog control, winches, linear actuators, and direction toggles require so nothing keeps running unattended.

Construction runs from the compact MTS-102 with solder pins for PCB and instrument work, through the orange E-Ten plastic bodies on screw terminals at 15A, up to the Daier KN3C-202 with a Bakelite housing, copper-silver alloy contacts, IP65 sealing, and a 100,000-cycle rated life for the heaviest duty. All the panel-mount models ship with their threaded bushing, hex nuts, and lock washer, so they clamp to any panel thickness and can be re-tightened years later.

Buying Guide

Work through the switching function first, since it is the one thing that cannot be corrected later. Count how many circuits must change together — one line means SPST or SPDT, two lines moving in step means a 6-pin DPDT — and then decide how many positions you need. Two positions give a plain on/off or an on-on changeover; three positions add a centre off, which is what separates a forward/reverse control with a safe neutral from one that jumps straight from one direction to the other. Next settle latching against momentary: latching for main power, source selection, and anything that should stay put, and double-reset momentary wherever the load must stop the instant the operator lets go — winches, actuators, and jog control. Then size the contact to the real load rather than the supply. The KN3-1 is a 4A/2A signal-level switch and the MTS-102 a 6A/3A instrument switch, so neither belongs on a motor; the E-Ten 1021, 1122, and 1322 and the ZENGTAI bodies carry 15A at 250V AC and will switch mains circuits directly. Where the switch is exposed to dust, damp, or constant cycling, take the Daier KN3C-202 — its Bakelite body, copper-silver contacts, IP65 rating, and 100,000-cycle life are a different class from the standard plastic-and-iron construction, and the price difference is quickly repaid in a harsh environment. Finally, match the termination to your build: screw terminals accept ring or fork lugs and can be undone for service, spade and solder options suit permanent low-current wiring, and remember to measure the panel hole for the threaded bushing before you drill.
